‘Big’ midfielder linked with Rangers last year wants to join a new club this summer
Glasgow Rangers were linked with Lewis Ferguson last year, but Steven Gerrard wasn’t able to bring the 21-year-old to Ibrox.
According to a report in the from last May, the Gers manager made the Aberdeen ace one of his top summer targets.
A year on and the Dons midfielder has stunned his club by handing them a written transfer request in wake of interest from an English Premier League club.
Ferguson was released by Rangers in 2013 and went on to join Hamilton, breaking into their first team in 2017.
He was on the move to Aberdeen a year later, where his career has gone from strength to strength, quickly becoming one of the first names on former boss Derek McInnes’ team sheet.
This season, Ferguson has made 41 appearances in all competitions, scoring 10 goals and registering five assists.
However, the former Scotland Under-21 international appears to be interested in a move away from Pittodrie this summer.
“Aberdeen Football Club is greatly disappointed to have received a written transfer request from midfielder Lewis Ferguson today,” the Scottish Premiership club said in a .
“This request, made after the club dismissed what can only be described as an insulting offer from an English Premier League club for one of Scotland’s most talented young midfield players, was rejected immediately.”
Watford, who have been promoted from the English Championship this season, have been linked with Ferguson’s services.

Ferguson was by McInnes as a “big” player who produces “big moments”, and now it looks as though he’s looking to make the step up to a bigger club.
Given the English club’s bid has failed and Ferguson’s request has been rejected, this means Rangers could still be in with a chance if they want him.
