He recorded his first assist against Southampton, heading the ball down to Conor Coady at the back post.

However, it’s the midfield partnership with Gueye that’s been the most impressive aspect of Onana’s arrival.

It was reported in the summer that Lampard personally convinced Onana to join Everton.

Lampard may have tipped Onana off then about the potential signing of Gueye to help get the deal over the line.

Lampard tipped Onana off about Gueye

Onana was asked how big a role Idrissa Gueye plays in the Everton side right now.

“A big one, because the manager told me about him maybe coming here (when I signed).”

“He’s a great player with a lot of experience. He’s just brought something else to the team.

“A very positive guy, and a very good player, so yeah a benefit to the team.”

Lampard has previously claimed that Gueye is a ‘’ player, and was one of Everton’s main transfer targets.

He finally signed from PSG as the transfer window was closing after weeks of negotiations.

Gueye has helpd contribute to Everton having one of the best defensive records in the league alongside Onana.

However, the Senegalese international was at fault for one of Manchester United’s goals at the weekend.

He’ll be hoping to quickly make amends when Everton play Tottenham on Saturday.
