Bielsa issues intriguing response to Brenden Aaronson question

Marcelo Bielsa has responded when asked whether Brenden Aaronson would be suitable for the way Leeds United play amid reports claiming that the Whites have bid for the midfielder this month.

Leeds fans may have been braced for a quiet January transfer window. The club have not tended to do a lot of significant business in the winter during Bielsa’s time at the club.

But Leeds sprung a bit of a surprise this week. that the club had seen a £15 million bid for the Red Bull Salzburg midfielder rejected. Interestingly, it was subsequently claimed that the 21-year-old is keen to make the move to Elland Road and work with Bielsa.

Leeds meanwhile, are said to be preparing a fresh offer. And, perhaps intriguingly, Bielsa did not shut down the rumour when asked about Aaronson in his press conference on Thursday.

“I prefer to speak about a player when it’s not a hypothetical possibility and when they are our player,” .

Leeds signing Aaronson would hand Whites another big January boost after two wins

Of course, Bielsa has not exactly said that he wants the player. And he has not answered the question regarding how he may fit into the Leeds side. But you could imagine that he would distance himself from the speculation if there was absolutely nothing in the bid reports.

Leeds have already enjoyed a brilliant January, with wins over Burnley and West Ham. They now sit nine points clear of the bottom three. And a win over Newcastle this weekend would make a huge difference.

Having said that, the previous results take some of the pressure off this weekend.

And signing Aaronson would arguably be another major boost this month. He looks to have a brilliant future ahead. And Leeds would still benefit from further quality in the middle of the park.

Clearly, there is work to be done. But many will take encouragement from Bielsa not shutting the rumours down.
