‘Better than Sidibe’, ‘reminds me of Hibbert’: Some Everton fans rave about academy graduate
Everton defender Jonjoe Kenny has enjoyed a great season away from Goodison Park on loan.
The Toffees academy graduate has been spending the 2019-20 campaign at Bundesliga side Schalke 04, where he has become a first-teamer and fan favourite.
Kenny is yet to establish himself as a key part of Everton’s first team plans despite winning the Premier League 2 title alongside Tom Davies, Mason Holgate and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

However, he has made a name for himself at Schalke, making including 29 in the Bundesliga.
Kenny won the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month award back in August and, as such, is for the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award.
The 23-year-old will be vying with Marcus Thuram (September to November), Ismail Jakobs (December), Erling Braut Haaland (January and February) and Alphonso Davies (May) for the accolade.
With Kenny’s Everton contract taking him to 2022, this summer is likely to see Carlo Ancelotti make a choice with regards to his first-team future at Goodison Park – does he keep him or does he cash in on him?
What have Toffees fans made of the nomination and on his future? Here is some of the social media reaction:
Great to see Jonjoe Kenny nominated for Bundesliga Rookie of the Season. Testament to his consistency – particularly given Schalke’s recent form. In esteemed company on shortlist too alongside likes of Haaland & Alphonso Davies

Been top drawer the last two games. Schalke scraping 2 draws down to him alone. Good movement, intelligent overlapping and made a goal saving aerial block against Leverkusen. Better player than Sidibe

Pleased he is in the list not least because of people watching only one Bundesliga game and dismissing him as not good enough . He may not come back to Everton but he deserves a bit better consideration than that .

A lot of Everton fans watched him against Dortmund and said he wasn’t good enough and sold. Nothing like a snap judgement. This tells a different story ??

I think Kenny is worth a punt, reminds me a bit of Tony Hibbert, who was never that quick.

Obviously there’s no realistic chance he’s winning it with Davies and Haaland in the running.
Maybe fans are too keen to cut ties. Might be worth getting back for pre season and at least having a look. Trying him for a season either postponing, or even better solving, RB issue.— Andreas Wätt (@Wattawildworld)
