‘Better than nothing’: Some Tottenham fans react to claims Mourinho has saved club millions
Some Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been reacting on social media to reports by , which claimed Jose Mourinho joining AS Roma has saved the club £13million in compensation.
Mourinho was relieved of his duties in north London last month after it became clear to club figures that he would be unable to guide Spurs back into the Champions League places (), while growing frustrated at his constant public criticism of the players.
At the time of his sacking, Tottenham standings and have since moved up one position to trail fourth-placed Chelsea by five points entering the final four games of the term.
The Portuguese tactician was due to receive circa £16m as part of the package agreed for his dismissal, with the club paying around 18 months’ worth of wages, but he will forgo close to 80% of the lost income after being appointed as Roma’s next head coach.

Roma on Tuesday that Mourinho will join the Serie A side on a three-year contract from the start of the 2021/22 campaign, having decided to after two seasons.
As it is expected that Mourinho’s contract will begin from July, Tottenham will continue paying their former manager for the next three months before being able to begin reaping the financial rewards of his departure.
