‘Best to move on’: Pundit urges 22-year-old ‘willing replacement for Tierney’ to leave Celtic
Mark Wilson has claimed that Celtic left-back Calvin Miller would be “best to move on” from Parkhead this summer, “for the sake of his career”.
The 22-year-old, who can also play on the wing, came through the ranks at Celtic and made his competitive debut in a Scottish Premiership match against Partick Thistle in December 2016.
Miller was tipped for big things only a few years ago, when he was considered Kieran Tierney’s understudy and potential long-term replacement.
In July 2017, former Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers was quoted by the as saying: “Calvin Miller is progressing well, he looks a stronger player this season. I like the look of him.”

With his contract at Parkhead expiring this summer, former Celtic man Wilson has urged Miller to up sticks for pastures new.
“He’s just kind of fell away and it’s a shame,” Wilson wrote in the . “I remember going to Rugby Park and watching him play at left-back against Kilmarnock and he was absolutely outstanding that day. I think he was man of the match.
“I thought this kid looked like a willing replacement for Kieran Tierney. But ever since then he never really kicked on. He had loan spells that didn’t really work out and I know he’s suffered injuries as well and I think his career has just stalled a bit.
“When your career does that at Celtic it’s difficult because somebody is always ready to come in and take your place. The club are always ready to put someone in ahead of you that maybe cost a million quid and you find it increasingly difficult to get back up to speed.
“I just wonder for Calvin Miller’s sake if it’s worth getting out to another Premiership side or Championship side and playing a full season and starting to rebuild that way rather than sit at Celtic and maybe get the odd game at the end of the season… I think for himself he’d be best to move on for the sake of his career.”

Things simply haven’t got to plan for Miller at Celtic, and to have played just five competitive first-team games for the Hoops – and none this season – pretty much confirms that his future lies elsewhere.
Celtic are likely to let him go anyway, but even if they were to offer him new terms, Wilson worries whether it would just be more of the same – a shame, considering how much potential he had when he came through the Lennoxtown ranks.
