‘Best player’: Tottenham talent lauded by country’s media after Euro 2020 clash
Tottenham defender Joe Rodon was in tremendous form last night as Wales slipped to defeat against Italy.
The 1-0 defeat was enough to earn Rob Page’s men a place in the last 16 on goal difference, however.
Progressing from a group featuring the Italians, Switzerland and Turkey is some statement and Wales have caught the eye.
Rodon has been tremendous during Euro 2020. The man has come of age having started all three of Wales’ games.
During 2020/21, Rodon played 19 times, with 14 of those appearances coming after his move to Tottenham.
The centre-back was largely used as a backup option last season, although he’ll fancy his chances of a more prominent role next season.
Rodon will fancy his chances of staying in the Wales team. Federico Chiesa’s goal ensured defeat for the Dragons last night but the defender was class.
Wales Online certainly enjoyed his performance. After the game, they awarded him the star man and awarding him an 8/10.

Wales are set to face either Finland, Belgium or Russia in Amsterdam on Saturday.
Five years ago at Euro 2016, they defied the odds to reach the last four – and they’ll hope for another great run this time around.
Rodon has to earn Tottenham chance next season
Quite simply, whoever gets the job at Tottenham has to hand Euro 2020 ace Rodon a fair shot to shine.
He couldn’t have timed this level of form any better and he’ll head back to Tottenham full of confidence.
The enforcer looks set for a bright future and he has to start featuring more for Spurs.
Eric Dier has been out of sorts, with Davinson Sanchez looking someway short of the required quality.
Toby Alderweireld wasn’t at his best last season either and a spot could soon open up at the back for Tottenham.
Right now, Rodon looks in pole position for a chance and Spurs could do a lot worse than hand him more opportunities.
