‘Best interests’: Pundit says 23-year-old linked with Arsenal could stay at Celtic

Odsonne Edouard has been widely expected to leave Celtic this summer.

Having been lined with 27 clubs during his time in Glasgow, including , it’s been assumed by many that the Frenchman would see an exit following Celtic’s disastrous campaign.

The 23-year-old wasn’t quite at his best in the first few months of the season, but has struck a rich vein of form in 2021 and now sits on 20 goals in 34 matches for the campaign.

He’s also continued his prolific run for France’s under-21 side, for whom he now has a record of 16 goals in just 12 games.

It’s no wonder he’s coveted by so many clubs, but one former Celtic star believes the club’s next manager could persuade him to stay.

If, as expected, it is Eddie Howe who takes the reins, Mark Wilson feels he could convince Edouard and some of his sought-after team-mates to remain in Glasgow.

Speaking on , Wilson said: “It looks as if Eddie Howe is interested in the Celtic job but might not take it until the summer.

“I’m of the opinion I’d like to see Eddie in Glasgow now – this week.

“You want to get him in before the Scottish Cup tie against Rangers to give him the best opportunity to assess the squad.

“And maybe he can try and convince some of these guys who are linked with moves away like Edouard, (Kris) Ajer and (Ryan) Christie that it’s in their best interests to stay under him and a new coaching team.

“But it’s a tough decision for the Celtic hierarchy to get right.”
