Report: £100k-a-week Arsenal player likely to join Premier League rivals this summer

Arsenal goalkeeper, Bernd Leno, could be on his way out of the club but according to Sky Sports, Newcastle United will have to wait until the summer if they want to be the club who lands him.

The German international has lost his way at Arsenal this season. Aaron Ramsdale has taken his place as Gunners number one and there seems little route back. Leno is thought to be unhappy at not even being picked for the cup games, and could now look to move.

Reports have claimed that Newcastle are one of the clubs keen on landing the German stopper, 29. However, while the Mags might hope to conclude transfers this January, any move for Leno appears to be a summer mission. That’s according to anyway.

Speaking on t, journalist Dharmesh Sheth relayed reports from Sky Germany about Leno’s situation.

Sky Germany are reporting Newcastle are interested in Bernd Leno. They claim it’s more likely a deal they could do in the summer. Leno has 18 months left on his contract, we talk about the World Cup on this transfer show – he wants to be in the Germany squad,” Sheth shared live on air.

“It just seems that if he was to go now, and signed a permanent deal at Newcastle before they went down, I think he would feel his World Cup chances would be jeopardised.”

£100k-a-week deal with Arsenal runs until 2023. As well as Newcastle, Inter Milan are also said to be keen on the stopper.

TBR’s View: Leno Can Do Better Than Newcastle

Of course, that might be a different matter come the summer. If Newcastle stay up and show real ambition in the market, then Leno might fancy the challenge. But for now, he should avoid St James.

Leno is a full German international who was doing well for Arsenal before this season. He’s not suddenly become second-rate, and there’ll be plenty of teams who want him.

So while a move from Arsenal might make sense. Swapping London for the Northeast seems farcical right now.
