Ben Woodburn’s agent says Liverpool talent is ready for comeback
The agent of Liverpool talent Ben Woodburn has suggested the talented Welshman is all set to get back to playing football after an injury-ravaged 2019-20 campaign, but also suggested Liverpool fans might have to get used to seeing him play in a different role.
Woodburn became Liverpool’s youngest ever goalscorer against Leeds United in 2016. Jurgen Klopp has since dubbed him an ‘outstanding talent’ and clearly has a vision of the 20-year-old making the Liverpool first-team.
However, Woodburn has struggled since his early breakthrough. A loan spell at Sheffield United did not go to plan and his most recent stint at Oxford United was hampered by a broken metatarsal that required surgery in October.
But his agent Dave Brammer has now that Woodburn is ready to return once football gets restarted. But he suggested Liverpool fans should expect to see him in a more central role compared to the left-wing position he has often occupied previously.
“Ben is fit and ready to get going again.
“Ben is champing at the bit and hoping to sneak some football in before the end of the season.
“Unfortunately he’s had that tough time with the injury but just as he was ready to play, we’ve hit the lockdown.
“Position-wise, Ben is now a slightly different player to when he first burst onto the scene.
“He can still play wide, but I would call him more of an attacking midfielder, more like a number 8 or a 10 in a more central role.”
Liverpool clearly had high hopes for Woodburn but with the likes of Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott also coming through at Melwood, the Welsh international clearly has a task on his hands to remain in the first-team plans of Jurgen Klopp.
Hopefully, with his positional shift and a new lease of life after his most recent injury, Woodburn can begin to showcase just why he was so highly-rated during his initial breakthrough.
