Ben Parker suggests Middlesbrough player would thrive at Leeds under Marcelo Bielsa

Ben Parker has claimed on Twitter that Middlesbrough star and former Leeds United captain Jonny Howson would thrive under manager Marcelo Bielsa, moments after the Whites earned a 1-0 win over Boro on Wednesday night.

Leeds made it three Championship wins in a row as Mateusz Klich scored just before the half-time whistle. A neat one-two with Pablo Hernandez saw the Pole fire into the bottom corner, just after Hernandez had hit the post.

The win sees Leeds remain five points clear of third-placed Fulham, who scored a late winner to see off Swansea City thanks to Aleksandar Mitrovic. With 11 games to play, Leeds look in a strong position to go up after overcoming a blip.

Howson, meanwhile, clocked up 219 appearances for Leeds and even captained the side after making his debut in September 2006. The 31-year-old left the club to join Norwich in 2012, but ex-Leeds ace Parker reckons he would thrive under Bielsa.

TBR’s view – Should Leeds really consider a move to bring Howson back?

Certainly, if they were to look into a move for Howson, they would find a move easy to complete. That is because the ex-Thorp Arch academy product is out of a contract at Middlesbrough in the summer.

A Championship version of James Milner, Howson is able to play in a number of positions. Coming through the ranks at Leeds as a striker, he is mostly used as a central midfielder – but has been used in a three-man defence this season.

Howson boasts enormous experience and would be a decent squad player at Leeds, but whether Bielsa thinks Howson is off the calibre and quality of a side that could be in the Premier League next season remains to be seen.
