Ben Jacobs shares whether Ivan Toney to Chelsea or Arsenal is more likely before deadline day
Arsenal appear to be picking up the pace as the transfer window comes to a close, with Mikel Arteta hungry for more after bagging his third summer signing.
Mikel Merino was announced as an Arsenal player yesterday, joining from Real Sociedad in a deal worth around £37.5 million including add-ons.
Prior to the move, Kieran Tierney told Merino that he would love life at Arsenal and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang even commented on the Spaniard’s Instagram post, wishing him luck on the move.
However, the excitement of the Merino signing has quickly worn off on Mikel Arteta as he looks to potentially dip back into the market for another player.
But, if it’s a striker he wants then one of his rumoured targets won’t be so easy to get in the final days…
Ivan Toney more likely to join Chelsea over Arsenal this summer
Ivan Toney has been attracting interest from Arsenal all summer but the Gunners are yet to really firm up their interest and have now left it late to do anything.
And, if what Ben Jacobs has said is true then they’re potentially last on the striker’s list.
Here’s what he had to say when speaking in an interview on Arsenal related YouTube channel .
“At the time we’re live he’s said yes to the contract and the financials at Al-Ahli, but there’s no agreement with Brentford.
“And, from Brentford’s point of view they don’t actually want to sell to Saudi Arabia because they realise now if no other suitor comes in then the European window is gonna shut, and suddenly Saudi are gonna have two or three more days.
“Brentford are then gonna be forced I think to go lower than they want. Whereas if a Premier League team comes in now, Brentford might get a bit closer to their price. If it is to be a club it could be Chelsea over Arsenal.”
However, as Jacobs has said, Ivan Toney has decided to he wants to move to Saudi, so it won’t be easy for any Premier League club to persuade him.

Who needs to sign Ivan Toney more?
Chelsea have already signed Marc Guiu from Barcelona and Joao Felix in attacking areas this summer, and with Nicolas Jackson at the club that gives them three striker or false 9 options.
On the other hand, Arsenal have just two strikers at their disposal in the form of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, as Eddie Nketiah has the green light to join Crystal Palace.
However, it remains to be seen as to whether he’d be a guaranteed starter at either side as Jackson has started the season strongly at Stamford Bridge, while Havertz has long been a favourite in the false 9 position over at the Emirates.
But, one benefit that both Chelsea and Arsenal can offer is the chance for the Englishman to stay in London, having played his football at Brentford over the past couple of years.
