Ben Foster says £60m star Liverpool are scouting was England’s best player at Euro 2024

Former England international Ben Foster has named a £60m player linked with Liverpool as the Three Lions’ best at Euro 2024.

Gareth Southgate once again led England to a European championship final, where the home nation were once again beaten, this time at the hands of Spain, who claimed a comfortable 2-1 win in Berlin to life the trophy.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold urged to win a starting XI spot ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Liverpool’s influence in the England squad was noticeably low at this summer’s Euros, with the defender and Joe Gomez the only Anfield representatives.

Yet Foster has now highlighted one England star rumoured with a move to Liverpool as the standout performer in Germany.

Marc Guehi showered with praise amid rumoured Liverpool interest

Speaking on his , Foster lauded the performances of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, who was arguably England’s best and most consistent performer at the Euros this summer.

With Liverpool reportedly scouting the £60m-rated centre-back, Guehi’s stock has hit an all-time high after his heroics for the Three Lions at the Euros, and Foster was impressed with what he saw from the Palace star in Germany.

Foster said: “It will be Marc Guehi, has to be Marc Guehi. Just imperious all the way through, genuinely imperious all the way through. I was going to say didn’t put a foot wrong, that’s doing him a disservice, just saying he didn’t put a foot wrong. He was absolutely fantastic.

“So calm, so cool, measured, absolutely under control of his emotions and his body shape and when there’s pressure on the ball, when to do this, he has everything right, he had everything right. He was not fazed by any second of it. It looks like it was his fifth tournament.”

Guehi could be dream defensive signing for the Reds this summer

Liverpool have made signing a defender a top priority this summer with Joel Matip leaving Anfield at the end of his contract last season, with Arne Slot in need of a solid replacement.

And Guehi could be a dream signing for the Reds in the transfer window, with the defender showing at Euro 2024 that he can take on the best attackers in Europe and come out on top having impressed so much for England.

Whilst Palace’s asking price is on the steep side, the 24-year-old centre-back could be worth the long-term investment, with Guehi ready to take the next step in his career, with Liverpool an ideal landing spit.
