Ben Davies makes Gareth Bale claim after Spurs defeat

Ben Davies has suggested – – that Gareth Bale was Tottenham Hotspur’s best player against West Ham at the weekend as he insisted that he has no doubts about his countryman’s ability.

Bale is yet to really vindicate the club’s decision to bring him back on loan in the summer. He has struggled to stamp his authority on a place in Jose Mourinho’s side.

However, there have been signs more recently that the 31-year-old may be starting to turn a corner. He has produced some moments of brilliance in the last few weeks.

Unfortunately, he has been unable to inspire an upturn in Spurs’ fortunes. Tottenham have lost five of their last six in the top flight.

And you could understand if fans felt, despite his improved form, that Bale needed to produce a lot more.

But ahead of Wednesday’s Europa League tie, Davies claimed that his belief in his teammate has never wavered.

“I think for me I’ll never have any doubts about Gareth Bale,” he said, .

“There’s a narrative around him that he’s either brilliant one week or he’s not. He hasn’t played a lot of football in the past two years. He was probably our best player against West Ham.”

As Davies suggests, Bale was arguably Tottenham’s shining light against the Hammers. Plenty of fans clearly agreed with the left-back’s assessment.

And given that those moments of magic have started to become a little more frequent in the last few weeks, it should perhaps come as no surprise if Bale does indeed prove to be the game-changer that Tottenham are currently crying out for.
