‘Bellerin puts forward his case’ – Three things learnt from Arsenal 1-0 Leicester
Robert Huth’s late own-goal spared Arsenal’s blushes and kept up their slim hopes of finishing in the Premier League top four in an uninspiring victory over Leicester City on Wednesday evening.
Arsenal dominated play during the opening exchanges but it was Petr Cech who was forced into making the first save, with Riyad Mahrez’s volley from close range expertly pushed over the bar.
Despite their control of the game throughout, the Gunners couldn’t find the finishing touch as Alexis Sanchez crashed the crossbar and Granit Xhaka’s effort forced Kasper Schmeichel into a smart stop.
It was quite in-keeping with the game that the crucial blow came via a Robert Huth own goal, inadvertently putting Nacho Monreal’s thunderous effort past his own goalkeeper with his chest.
The result sees Arsenal close the gap on the top four to four points ahead of the crucial Manchester derby on Thursday evening, whilst Leicester City are still not quite mathematically safe.
