‘Been with him’… Conor Coady shares what he really thinks of Ben White after training with him for England
Conor Coady has shared his feelings about Ben White after training with the Arsenal star while away with England in the past.
Ben White has been at the centre of plenty of debate over the last week or so. The 26-year-old has been absolutely superb for Arsenal, and has recently been awarded a new contract.
However, White has not played for England since leaving the squad during the 2022 World Cup. On form alone, White should most definitely be in Gareth Southgate‘s latest squad for this international break.
Conor Coady saddened as Ben White remains out of England fold
But the Arsenal star has decided that he does not want to be considered for selection for the Three Lions right now.

White has never spoken publicly about the specific reasons for leaving the England squad in Qatar. Clearly, there is a real reluctance to play for his country again given that not being involved now probably ends any chance of the defender making the squad for Euro 2024.
Conor Coady has been in England squads with White before. And he provided an insight into one of the more intriguing characters in the Premier League on .
“The thing is I don’t think we’ll ever know until someone comes out and says it. You can sit there and speculate and say different things all you want. But I’ve been with him in England squads. He’s a great character to have around the place. He’s a great lad first and foremost. I think how he trains and how he goes about his business, he’s top, top-drawer,” he said, before being asked whether he is saddened by the news.
“Yeah, because I think he’s a phenomenal player. What he’s doing at this moment in time with Bukayo Saka down that right side with Arsenal is absolutely incredible and I think he deserves to play for his country.”
Arsenal’s gain
White has to do what is best for him. Whatever has gone on is serious enough to leave him feeling that he would rather not be considered for an international call-up.
Arsenal fans will not mind seeing White be able to put his feet up for a few days. As Coady notes, he has been exceptional for the Gunners. And the Premier League title race is going to come down to the barest of margins.
England’s loss is definitely likely to be Arsenal’s gain this season.
