‘Been very impressed’: Kenny Dalglish thinks Rangers star will give Old Firm rivals a hard time
Glasgow Rangers forward Kemar Roofe has been praised by Kenny Dalglish ahead of Steven Gerrard’s charges hosting their Old Firm rivals at Ibrox this weekend.
The 27-year-old joined the Scottish Premiership leaders in the summer from Anderlecht for a reported €5million (£4.5million) fee.
Roofe needed some time to get up to speed at Rangers due to lack of game time prior to his move, his 2019-20 campaign hampered by injury issues.
However, he is now shining for the Gers, boasting an amazing from 19 competitive games in all competitions.
Roofe has netted spectacular goals, such as his wonder-strike against Standard Liege in October, as well as simpler ones, like the close-range finish at St Johnstone.
And Celtic legend Dalglish admits he has been “very impressed” with the former Leeds ace’s efforts, tipping the Bhoys defenders to have their “hands full” with the striker on Saturday.
“In the past few weeks, I have been very impressed with Kemar Roofe,” Dalglish wrote in the . “He now looks as though he can be a match-winner.
“He had a slow-ish start to his Ibrox career, and took time to find his feet. But he now looks to be an astute signing.
“He impressed me when he played for Leeds United, and I actually see an improvement in him from his days at Elland Road.
“When you think back to his wonder goal at Standard Liege in the Europa League, that must have given him huge confidence.
“To have the ability to beat the keeper from inside his own half speaks absolute volumes for his footballing intelligence.
“Saturday is the kind of game Kemar will be relishing, and he looks to be in a really good place just now. The Celtic defenders will have their hands full against him.”

Prior to his switch to Rangers, Roofe hadn’t played a competitive game since December 27 last year when he picked up an injury playing for Anderlecht, so it’s no surprise that he had to be eased into action.
It was more than worth the wait as he is now proving an indispensable member of Gerrard’s side, which is currently on course for title number 55 – but with a resurgent Celtic finding form, it’ll be a big test this weekend.
