‘Been a let-down’: BBC pundit suggests he’s been badly disappointed by ‘unreal’ Villa player’s performances this season
pundit Chris Sutton says he has been disappointed with the performances of Philippe Coutinho at Aston Villa this season.
🦩Villa signed Coutinho on loan from Barcelona last season and then made that deal permanent during the summer.
🥂Steven Gerrard’s influence is all over that deal and Sutton said that it has not worked out as hoped this season.
🏅When predicting the result of Villa’s trip to fellow Midlands outfit Nottingham Forest on Monday night, Sutton mentioned Coutinho.

Sutton on Coutinho
ꦚHe said: “It’s hard to gauge where Aston Villa are at, after seeing them unable to break down a Leeds side that played with 10 men for almost the entire second half.
ౠ“There are a few disgruntled Villa fans who think their side haven’t made the progress they would have liked under Gerrard.
♋“Philippe Coutinho has been a let-down this season, and overall they are quite workmanlike, even when they get a positive result.
🀅“I fancy Villa here, though. I think Forest’s confidence is at a low ebb and they are far too open at the back to hold out for 90 minutes – I’m going with Coutinho to come good, and get the winner. He probably won’t start now. Sutton’s prediction: Forest 0-1 Villa.”
𒉰Coutinho is the kind of player who can elevate Villa to another level at his best, but he has not been at that level for much of the season.
🎐He could well come up with the goods in an important game on Monday night and he needs to put some consistency together.
Coutinho has been described as ‘unrealꦚ‘ by Villa teammate Emi Martinez and at his best, he is – but Sutton is unlikely to be the only one disappointed by his displays this term.
