BBC Sport pundit says £16k-a-week Rangers ace showed off an ‘exceptional’ trait last night
Glasgow Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield once again demonstrated his “exceptional” timing for Steven Gerrard’s charges in last night’s game at Ibrox, according to BBC Sport pundit Billy Dodds.
Rangers were hoping to seal qualification to the knockout stages of the Europa League stages as they hosted Benfica at Ibrox.
However, just like in Portugal earlier this month, the Gers led and looked set for victory, only for a late comeback from the opposition to ensure a share of the spoils.
Arfield gave Rangers the lead in the seventh minute by hammering home on the rebound after Kemar Roofe saw a header saved and James Tavernier then headed against the crossbar.
“Scott Arfield has always had that trait of arriving in the box at the right time,” Dodds told . “Even during his Falkirk days you could see it. His timing is exceptional.”
Roofe then scored a superb second for the hosts on 69 minutes, but Tavernier put through his own net nine minutes later before Pizzi grabbed an equaliser in the 81st minute, 2-2 the final score.

Arfield has been superb for Rangers this season, his runs from deep and across the opposition defence, not to mention his vision and his engine, giving Gerrard and the squad something they’ve been sorely lacking.
The 31-year-old was on the fringes of the Rangers first team at the start of the season, mostly coming on as a substitute, but is now a regular, though with the strength in depth at Gerrard’s disposal, the £ ace can certainly be rested if need be.
