BBC pundit speaks out on worrying sight he spotted at Spurs before extra time last night
BBC Sport pundit Stephen Warnock has spoken of how he noticed a number of Tottenham Hotspur fans leaving Wednesday night’s FA Cup tie after the 90th minute, despite extra time coming up.
Jose Mourinho’s Spurs took on Norwich City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and broke the deadlock in the 13th minute through a towering Jan Vertonghen header, a lead they maintained at the break.
However, Josip Drmic equalised on the rebound with 12 minutes left after Tottenham goalkeeper Michel Vorm failed to hold on to Kenny McLean’s effort.

The game eventually headed to spot kicks, where Norwich keeper Tim Krul once again showed his strong penalty-saving credentials to help his side into the quarter-finals at Spurs’ expense.
According to Warnock, who was on BBC Sport commentating duties on the night, he saw “quite a few fans” disappear before extra time, noting empty seats near him.
“Tottenham have not given their fans much to shout about,” Warnock said (). That first half of extra time was really poor.
“Quite a few fans disappeared as soon as the 90 minutes was up. You can see quite a few empty seats to the right of the TV gantry.”
TBR View:
Tottenham’s season continues to go from bad to worse, with hopes of a Premier League top-four finish diminishing by the week, being 1-0 down against RB Leipzig going into the Champions League last-16 second leg, and now out of the FA Cup.
It’s a lot to take for Spurs fans who have enjoyed several great seasons in the league and mounted a heroic run to the Champions League final, only to now see their season crashing before their eyes.
It’s especially worrying if, as Warnock says, quite a few fans left while there was still extra time and, as it turned out, penalties still to come – the Spurs board needs to take heed and act promptly if fans are showing their disapproval and voting with their feet, as they seem to be doing.
