‘Why?’: BBC pundit slams Nottingham Forest player for what he kept doing v Tottenham today

Nottingham Forest got a bit of a dose of reality this afternoon as Tottenham strode into the City Ground and put them to the sword.

Harry Kane was the master once again as he hit the back of the net despite missing a penalty. The England captain was once again the key cog for Spurs as they simply had too much quality for Forest in the final third. For Forest, that lack of quality in the final third proved a nightmare for them.

Jesse Lingard essentially started the game as being the man asked to get furthest forward. However, he blew a number of occasions to get into the box to make good chances and former striker Clinton Morrison pointed it out Lingard’s shortcomings on commentary

“Jesse Lingard has to make the six-yard box there. It would have just been a tap-in,” Morrison said on .

“Why is Jesse Lingard on the edge of the box again?! The only player in there for that ball was Toffolo. They have to get some bodies into the box.”

Lingard was withdrawn by Steve Cooper in the 70th minute, as Emmanuel Dennis replaced him. And with so many new signings, the England midfielder may well be worrying about his place in coming games.

TBR’s View: Lingard Not Quite Producing Just Yet

Forest have some exciting players in the ranks and on their day they can give teams at this level a game. And to be fair today, for large parts they did give it a good go.

However, the Reds’ lack of prowess at the top of the pitch is noticeable. They looked toothless at times and Steve Cooper needs to remedy that really.

Without goals, Forest will struggle massively and today was a glaring eye opener for the Reds against a quality side.
