BBC pundit says Liverpool star’s ‘selfishness’ had a ‘negative effect’ on £100,000-a-week teammate

Garth Crooks believes there is a big change in Liverpool star Mohamed Salah this campaign compared to last season.
The Egyptian is in the form of his life at the moment. He has scored 23 goals and has provided nine assists in all competitions this term, which is an incredible record considering that he has only played 26 games.
Salah is the best player in the world now in many people’s eyes and he deserves a lot of praise. Crooks, who has watched a lot of the Egyptian over the years, believes that goals are coming naturally for him this campaign.
So, what was so different last season? Crooks believes Salah was selfish.
Garth Crooks: Mo Salah was selfish last season and that hurt Sadio Mane
The pundit wrote in his weekly column on : “I heard my non-selection of Mohamed Salah in my team of the year got one or two a little hot under the collar. Well, I make no apologies for that. Salah made my team of the season but crudely chased the Golden Boot award.
“His selfishness had a negative effect on Sadio Mane in particular and, in my view, had an adverse effect on Liverpool’s campaign last season – a point I made at the time.
“This season, Salah looks like a team player again and his goals are coming naturally. He is no longer looking for cheap penalties and is back to the player he was the season Liverpool won the title, and that’s why he makes my team of the week.”

Is the Egyptian selfish?
This has been an ongoing debate for a few years now and it doesn’t look like it will stop anytime soon. However, it has to end.
It’s easy for fans to label a player selfish for not passing the ball to his teammate. On multiple occasions, Salah and his Senegalese teammate have both backed themselves to score a more difficult goal rather than setting up the other. Sometimes, they work and other times, they don’t. That’s football.
Some of Salah’s decisions in front of goal may seem a bit selfish, but with the record he has, can you really blame him for backing himself? We don’t think so and this debate has to stop ASAP!
