BBC pundit says Huddersfield should sign player like Leeds ace Kiko Casilla
that Huddersfield Town that the Terriers need to follow Leeds Unired’s example and sign a goalkeeper with plenty of calibre, such as Kiko Casilla.
Leeds brought in Casilla from Spanish giants Real Madrid in the January transfer window, after Bailey Peacock-Farrell had played for the first half of the 2018-19 campaign.
The 32-year-old has played 11 matches since joining the club, conceding just 10 goals and keeping three clean sheets. He has brought a greater line of defence to Leeds, but also the ability to play out from the back.
Former Huddersfield goalkeeper and BBC pundit Glennon discussed Huddersfield’s goalkeeping troubles, and suggested Jan Siewert’s side need a stopper like Casilla.
“They are two good goalkeepers [Huddersfield’s Jan Lossl and Ben Hamer], don’t get me wrong, but if they are going to mount a promotion challenge next season, you have to look at what Leeds have done,”
“Peacock-Farrell is a good keeper and was doing well – his stats were superb – but he was just missing something; he didn’t have that stature, that presence of a keeper and that experience to take you over the line,” added Glennon.
“I think that’s what Huddersfield Town are going to have to find. They are going to have to find that presence, that big character for next season.”
TBR’s view
Casilla has been excellent for Leeds since joining the club on a free from Real. But Leeds should now be worried, ahead of the summer window over keeping the Spaniard – if they fail to gain promotion.
The former Spain international would have only joined the Whites with the hope that they would be in the Premier League for 2019-20. Now, that is in jeopardy after a 1-0 loss to Birmingham City on Saturday.
Glennon is right. Huddersfield need a goalkeeper with a bit of stature. Should Leeds be looking over their shoulder? Perhaps.
