BBC pundit says £22m Everton player was what they were ‘crying out for’ against Burnley
Everton gave their hopes of Premier League survival a huge boost by picking up a crucial victory in their 3pm kick-off at Goodison Park.
Sean Dyche’s Toffees hosted fellow Premier League strugglers Burnley in a relegation six-pointer and ran out 1-0 winners.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the winner, capitalising on an error by Clarets goalkeeper Arijanet Muric for his second goal in as many games.
The 27-year-old, who ended a 23-goal drought by scoring in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Newcastle, blocked a Muric goal kick just outside the box.
The ball looped over the Burnley goalkeeper and bounced into the net, a gift which would prove to be the difference between the two teams.

Everton are now 15th in the Premier League table, four points above 18th-placed Luton Town. The Toffees are next in action on Monday 15 April when they head to Chelsea.
How did Andre Gomes fare for Everton against Burnley?
Everton midfielder Andre Gomes enjoyed a great afternoon in his first 90-minute outing for the Toffees since March 2022.
The 30-year-old has struggled for fitness this season due to an ongoing calf injury that has limited him to 12 appearances in 2023/24.
Gomes returned to the starting XI against Burnley and provided great passing ability and composure to an Everton side that has been missing those traits.
The awarded the man a 7 out of 10 rating and wrote: His ability to pick a pass gave Everton a different dimension in midfield.
“And he brought a rare touch of silk to this contest despite being booked just before the break for bringing down Odobert.”
BBC Sport pundit and former Everton midfielder Izzy Christiansen also liked what she saw from the Portuguese talent in the match.
“Andre Gomes has been excellent for Everton,” Christiansen said on . “He has brought in control and it’s exactly what Everton have been crying out for.”

It’s a shame that Gomes has been struggling with fitness so much, but when available, he is such a high-quality player that instantly improves the Toffees midfield.
He is composed in the middle and can create chances with his great passing ability. Let’s hope things stay on the right track and he can be a regular for the rest of the season.
