‘He’s a diamond’: BBC pundit in awe of Everton player who outshone Pickford v Liverpool, says he ‘has the lot’

Everton drew 0-0 with Liverpool yesterday in what was a fine performance at Goodison, with Nathan Patterson among those to impress.

The young full-back played up against the brilliant Luis Diaz out wide and never let the Colombian winger get the better of him really. Patterson showed grit and determination, while he also had quality on the ball as well when needed.

And speaking on , former Liverpool man Danny Murphy admitted he was super impressed with the performance of Patterson all game long.

“He seems to have the lot. He’s only 20, came in January. Physically very very good, good composure as well. Early in the game, setting his mark, showing the fans what he’s all about. Has he got the composure as well to play out? Yes he did,” Murphy .

“He’s got a desire to get forward and have an impact on the game. His defensive work’s good. Desire and determination. It was only his sixth PL appearance but he looked comfortable and established. He had courage and awareness to play how he wanted to play. I think the fans are going to love him, the way he bombs forward and gets a foot in. He’s a diamond.”

TBR’s View: Patterson Will Get Better For Everton

Talk about delivering when it matters. Patterson was simply superb against Liverpool and if that is a sign of his performance levels on a weekly basis then the word diamond might be correct.

Murphy was waxing lyrical about the Everton man and it’s little wonder Frank Lampard had been so keen to bring him to the club in the first place.

Yesterday was a solid building block for Everton to go from and with Patterson playing like this, Lampard will have one position he simply doesn’t need to worry about.
