BBC pundit blown away by ‘ridiculous’ £15m Tottenham player against Manchester United

Clinton Morrison was full of praise for Destiny Udogie after the Tottenham Hotspur defender did brilliantly to challenge Alejandro Garnacho during the first-half against Manchester United.

Those who claimed that we knew what to expect from Ange Postecoglou‘s side at Old Trafford were proven exactly right during the first-half. Tottenham played some superb football, but looked vulnerable at the back at times. And their full-backs were not at all afraid to push up.

Alejandro Garnacho must have thought that he was about to get away from Destiny Udogie in the first-half. The winger evaded one collision with the Italian and managed to break towards the penalty area.

However, Udogie took a big risk and produced a sliding challenge. Of course, those who watched the crazy game against Chelsea in November will know that the 21-year-old’s challenges do not always pay off. But this one on Garnacho was absolutely perfect.

And speaking on , Clinton Morrison suggested that it was a remarkable bit of defending from the Tottenham youngster.

“For me he’s been the best left-back in the Premier League this season. Even when Garnacho there gets half a yard on him, his recovery is ridiculous. What a player he is by the way. It’s the energy, non-stop,” he said.

An inspired signing for Spurs

Morrison is not the only one to suggest that Udogie has been the best left-back in the Premier League this season. He has been a revelation in the top-flight.

His one on one defending has to be really good, because Ange Postecoglou’s side do take those risks when they are going forward.

Garnacho has been a shining light for Manchester United this season. And that battle was one of the most intriguing during the first 45 minutes as Erik ten Hag’s side took a narrow lead into the break.

It is frightening to think of the level Udogie is already at given his age. And you have to credit Tottenham’s recruitment team for landing him for just .

In today’s game, that is an absolute steal.
