BBC journalist says there’s a £70m problem stopping Raheem Sterling from joining Arsenal currently
Raheem Sterling to Arsenal is the big rumour on transfer deadline day.
Sterling is being strongly linked to Arsenal, and this is a deal that is going to be very difficult to do.
Sterling would have to take a serious pay-cut to join Arsenal, while there are other salary problems for the England international at Chelsea.
According to Nizaar Kinsella, writing for the , Sterling can’t leave Chelsea until issues around a pay-out are resolved.
Kinsella says that Sterling’s camp believe they are owed £70m, so there’s a huge hurdle to clear before this deal can proceed.

Raheem Sterling’s £70m problem
Kinsella shared what he knows about Sterling’s situation.
“Arsenal have been offered winger Raheem Sterling but he can’t leave until issues around a pay-out for losing some of his projected earnings while on over £300,000-a-week will be key,’ Kinsella wrote.
“If all bonuses are met, his side believe they are owed a staggering £70m, which would have to be made up, or a loss negotiated between him, the buying club and Chelsea.”
Sterling can’t be stubborn
Sterling has a £70m problem staring him in the face here, but he can’t be stubborn if he’s serious about getting his career back on track.
Yes, money is important, but Sterling has earned a massive amount during his career, and he’d still pick up a decent pay-packet at Arsenal.
Sterling surely wants to be playing at the top level, and a compromise needs to be reached here.
Of course, it’s not easy to walk away from £70m of potential earnings, but the question is how much is first-team football and a potential spot in the England team worth to Sterling?
Sterling may have to give up some of his potential earnings for the good of his career, because if he stays at Chelsea, he won’t be playing any football for the foreseeable future.
