Bassey shares what Van Bronckhorst told Rangers players that worked wonders on Thursday night

Glasgow Rangers have begun life under Giovanni van Bronckhorst in the best possible way, the new manager winning his first Ibrox game.

Rangers ran out 2-0 winners in the Europa League at Ibrox on Thursday, which sent the Light Blues into the knockout stages of the competition.

Alfredo Morelos bagged a brace as Rangers saw off Sparta with little difficulty, the Gers reaching the knockouts for a third successive year.

Now, Van Bronckhorst is preparing his Rangers charges for Scottish Premiership action, away at Livingston on Sunday.

Speaking to the press ahead of the match, Calvin Bassey said he was happy to have such an amazing manager at Ibrox.

The 21-year-old also shared what Van Bronckhorst told the Rangers players about the best way to defend – something which worked wonders on Thursday.

“It’s always different when a new manager comes in,” the quotes Bassey as saying. “But as players we have to adapt.

“He’s an amazing manager with an amazing staff. So we’re focused on giving our best for him in every single game.

“It’s just about defending as a group and being solid.

“Because we’ve conceded first in the last few games, he’s told us to be strong.

“And he’s said it’s easier to defend with 11 players than it was with seven or eight.

“So we did that well against Sparta. Everyone won their duels and was really strong.

“We were happy to do it for the coach.”
