Peterborough United chairman Barry Fry has told that Ivan Toney could fetch Celtic £50 million in the future.
The charismatic figurehead has urged the Hoops to stop messing around and put the money up to land the League One striker.
Celtic have held discussions with Fry in recent weeks, with the Hoops notifying Posh that they will move once they have offloaded a player.
A bid of £5 million was turned down, whilst Championship outfit Brentford have tabled a £9 million offer.
Fry thinks Celtic are missing about though, urging the Scottish Champions to get serious about Toney.
“Toney would be a revelation for Celtic, he’d be a star, for definite.
“He’d score 30 to 40 goals up there, he really would.
“Not only is he brilliant in the box, scoring and creating with his right foot, left foot and head, at six foot four he’s also our best defender. Celtic will get £40-50m for him”
The 24-year-old hotshot scored 26 goals and registered seven assists during 2019/20.
It comes as little surprise that clubs are eying up his services and Celtic would be foolish not to pounce.
Toney would be a different option to Odsonne Edouard and he’d also be a suitable replacement should the talisman leave.
The valuation of £9 million doesn’t seem too far out of Celtic’s reach and they shouldn’t delay too long.
Toney found his way at London Road after spells with Newcastle, Northampton Town, Wigan, Scunthorpe, Shrewsbury and Barnsley.
At 24 he has plenty of time on his side and Celtic, as Fry quite rightly says, should stop messing around.
