Barry Ferguson tells Jake Hastie to ignore reported Rangers and Celtic interest
that Motherwell youngster Jake Hastie should ignore reported interest from Old Firm sides Rangers and Celtic, and continue to gain experience with Stephen Robinson’s side.
Hastie, 20, impressed on loan at Alloa during the first half of the season. Robinson opted to recall the winger and he has continued his explosive form in the Scottish Premiership.
Making nine senior appearances for The Well since returning to Fir Park, Hastie has hit the back of the net six times from out wide. He scored a brace against Livingston, and goals against Hearts and St. Mirren.
Celtic and Rangers were interested in Hastie among other sides. But ex-Rangers skipper Ferguson has urged Hastie to remain at Motherwell and continue to get games under his belt.

“For me, I think it would be better if he gets a number of games under his belt, but listen when a team like Rangers come calling, obviously he is going to be interested,”
“Is he going to go to Rangers and play? You can never tell. I think it’s important for young players to get games under their belt. Then someday, he will get his big move because he’s certainly got a lot of quality.”
TBR’s view
As much as Motherwell fans will love to hear Ferguson’s comments on Hastie, the chances of him remaining at the club are slim. That is because of his current contract situation.
The youngster is in the final months of his current deal. With his head being turned at interest from two of Britain’s biggest clubs in the Old Firm duo, it is unlikely he will commit to Motherwell.
It remains to be seen where Hastie will end up. But the chances of him taking the advice of Ferguson is slim.
