Barry Douglas and Robbie Gotts laud Leeds starlet on Instagram after goal

Barry Douglas was amongst those to laud Alfie McCalmont on Instagram following his latest goal this week – while the Leeds United starlet was also compared with an Elland Road legend by one of his former Oldham teammates.

McCalmont continues to send a message to Marcelo Bielsa ahead of his return to Leeds this summer. The 21-year-old has now scored 10 goals in all competitions for the Latics.

The latest came on Tuesday as Oldham beat Harrogate. And once again, it came from outside the box and crossed the line after coming down off the bar.

It was another superb strike from the Northern Irishman. And it may well be exactly what Leeds fans were hoping to see with no Premier League side scoring more goals from outside the box this season than the Whites.

Unsurprisingly, his Instagram post about the goal attracted plenty of responses. And amongst those to reach out was Douglas.

The left-back, of course, is a player capable of outrageous end product. So it says a lot that the Blackburn loanee has urged McCalmont to ‘stop that’.

Meanwhile, there was also a couple of great responses from Oldham players past and present.

Dylan Fage labelled McCalmont ‘Iniesta’, while former Latics teammate David Wheater compared McCalmont with David Batty.

Leeds supporters would certainly be delighted if McCalmont could prove anywhere near as influential as Batty upon his return to Elland Road.

With that in mind, here is McCalmont’s post, as well as a couple of the responses…
