Barnsley star Alex Mowatt reacts to Leeds defeat on Instagram
Alex Mowatt has taken to Instagram to express his enjoyment at coming up against his old side on Sunday despite the result, with Barnsley losing 2-0 to Leeds United at Oakwell.
There was a time when many of the Elland Road faithful would have expected Mowatt to be crucial to their hopes of elevating themselves from mid-table mediocrity in the Championship.

However, he left in 2017, long before Marcelo Bielsa arrived. Sunday’s Yorkshire derby between the two was instead a chance for the 24-year-old to help show how far Barnsley have come under Daniel Stendel.
Leeds knew a victory would send them back to the top of the table. Swansea City had opened the door for the Whites by losing the previous day.

It did however, appear that the Tykes would, at least, get a point. Leeds could not turn their dominance into goals, and Kiko Casilla needed to make a number of superb saves to deny the home side.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 84th minute as Eddie Nketiah got on the end of Kalvin Phillips’s free-kick. It was his fourth goal in six games since joining on loan.
And United would ensure that the points were safe when Nketiah was brought down in the box. Mateusz Klich evoked memories of his audacious penalty at Burnley by calmly sliding the ball home from 12 yards.
Barnsley can definitely take plenty of encouragement from their performance. There were moments when they looked destined to score the game’s first goal. And they did cause problems.
And that pride comes across in Mowatt’s Instagram post. The midfielder took to social media to comment on the result, the performance and the opportunity to face his former club…
