Barcelona star has now decided to leave, six months after Arsenal tried to sign him

Arsenal are still looking for a new midfielder and should they fancy it, a Barcelona star they’ve looked at previously is now ready to move on.

The Gunners are being linked with a host of moves this summer as Mikel Arteta looks to plug the gaps in his squad and improve the first XI.

Arsenal are looking into signing Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad, while Martin Zubimendi remains a target for the Gunners as well.

In defence, Riccardo Calafiori is wanted at Arsenal, although a deal is stalling for the Italian as it stands.

However, over in Spain, there is some movement from the Barcelona end that may well intrigue Arsenal.

Sergi Roberto decides to leave Barcelona after Arsenal tried to sign him

According to a report from over in Spain, the experienced midfielder Roberto is now preparing to leave Barcelona.

It’s reported how Roberto is open to a new challenge and has a particular interest in making a move to the Premier League if there is one available.

Of course, Roberto leaving the Spanish giants could perk the interest of Mikel Arteta and Arsenal once again.

Indeed, it was only back in January that it was claimed Arsenal were keen to bring Roberto to the club.

Now 32, the Barcelona man would offer experience and knowhow to the midfield for the Gunners.

Of course, it would also mark a shift away from the previous summer windows for Arsenal which has seen them go for younger players with plenty of life in them and sell on value.

Arsenal did stray from that in January by bringing in the likes of Jorginho and Leandro Trossard back in 2023 and it remains to be seen if Mikel Arteta would do similar again.

Roberto, then, could be a solid short-term option for the Gunners if the window continues to be dry.
