Barcelona have just discussed personal terms with agent of ‘world-class’ player Arsenal want to sign

Arsenal’s hopes of landing one of their top targets this summer may be slipping after a recent development.

Mikel Arteta has endured a frustrating start to this summer’s transfer window as he awaits his first signing at Arsenal.

That could soon be brought to an end as Arsenal eye a move for a third-choice goalkeeper in Charlie Setford.

The Gunners are believed to have scheduled a medical in for Setford after agreeing a price with Ajax for the young talent.

However, their are bigger prizes on offer for Arsenal this summer with some seriously exciting names said to be on their wishlist.

But they are now in danger of losing ground in the race for one of them to Barcelona.

Barcelona leading the way for ‘world class’ Arsenal target

Riccardo Calafiori is one of the big names which Arsenal are chasing this summer but are struggling to get an agreement secured.

Arsenal are said to have further talks with Bologna scheduled to discuss the proposed deal for Calafiori.

However, it seems Edu Gaspar has multiple plates spinning as Arsenal also have a real interest in potentially adding one of Europe’s most exciting young forwards.

Nico Williams is a player who Arsenal are believed to be showing a keen interest in but are at risk of losing out to Barcelona, as things stand.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco held a meeting with the agent of Williams on Wednesday.

It is claimed the nature of the meeting was to try and close an agreement on personal terms over a proposed move to Barca.

The meeting is said to have been held in Zaragoza as Barcelona look to steal a march on the interest coming Williams’ way from England.

Nico Williams being pressured to make his decision

Having showcased his talent at Euro 2024, Williams is now trying to enjoy a summer break before returning for pre-season.

What club he will be returning to is not yet known with Athletic Club putting pressure on Williams to make his decision so they know whether to plan for a season with him.

One thing which is certain is wherever Williams will play next season, the club will be fielding a ‘world-class‘ player who wowed at this summer’s Euros.

The 22-year-old was able to provide two goals and an assist in his six appearances – including the opening goal in the final against England.

He looks to be a real talent for the future but Arsenal have work to do if they want to see him playing in north London next season.
