Barcelona fans react as Leeds complete signing of left-back Junior Firpo
Leeds and that Junior Firpo has swapped the Nou Camp for Elland Road. A four-year deal was agreed with announcement on Tuesday at midday, as Leeds solve their left-back issues. Barcelona fans have reacted to Firpo joining Leeds, and some are gutted.
Jordi Alba remained first choice during the two seasons in which Firpo was on the books at Barcelona. Following his move from Real Betis, 24-year-old Firpo managed to play just 41 times in all competitions. Barca have chosen to cash in, with the club in dire need of funds at this moment in time.
It sees Leeds solve a long-standing left-back issue. While Gjanni Alioski has impressed on the left side of defence, especially in the second half of 2020-21, he was never a long-term answer. The North Macedonia international has now left the club on a free. Barca confirmed Firpo’s exit.
What are Barcelona fans saying about Firpo moving to Leeds?
Firpo becomes the third signing made by Leeds this summer. Victor Orta has already done a permanent deal for Jack Harrison, joining the club from Manchester City after three seasons on loan. Amari Miller joins from Birmingham City, and is expected to line-up for the Under-23 side.
Firpo, though, is the first big new name in the first team. The ex-Real Betis man brings with him plenty of pedigree and talent. That is proven by supporters of Barcelona, who have reacted to Firpo’s exit by either criticising the decision – or bemoaning his lack of game time at Barca.
In other Leeds news, Firpo does have a clause in the deal that sees Barca pick up 20% of any future fee.
