Bamford shares what Lascelles said to him about Leeds win
Patrick Bamford that Jamaal Lascelles told him that Newcastle should have won Tuesday’s clash with the Whites at St James’ Park.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side got back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory. Leeds initially took the lead through Raphinha. And Jack Harrison bagged the winner after 🉐Miguel Almiron had equalised.
Newcastle looked a lot better tha🐓n they have for some time, particularꦯly in the second-half. But that came after Leeds had dominated the first 45 minutes. And the visitors had further opportunities after the break to get a lot closer to the five goals they scored in the reverse fixture.
Nevertheless, it appears that Newcastle felt that the result could have go💝ne another way as Bamford shed light on a conversation he has since had with Lascelles.
“I was actually speaking to Jamaal today because I was with him at Forest when we were younger as kids. And he felt that they should have won the game,” . “I said, ‘well, I’m not sure about t🃏hat, you did have a few chances in the second-half’. But it was really like a half an hour spell that they had when they conjured up a few chances.
“But ultimately, the fact that we won, grinding out a win, we have had to learn that you’ve got to grind it out, you’ve got to kill time, game management. So itﷺ was impressive from💞 the lads to see it through. We did make it difficult at times, but three points was the most important thing.”
It was certainly a nervy watch𝓡 for Lౠeeds supporters. But they have now shown a side of their game on a couple of occasions that some pundits doubted they had.
Against Burnley and Newcastle, Leeds have not been at their best. And yet🏅, they ꦅhave managed to take six points from those games.
Illan Meslier was tested on Tyneside. And some of the statistics wouldꦰ hint that Leeds were fortunate. But the Whites were the more exciting side for the majority of the game and ultimately took more chances than their opponents.
