Balague talks about Firpo as ace completes move to Leeds United
Guillem Balague has claimed that Leeds United ace Junior Firpo is a better attacker than defender.
The Dominican Republic-born player joined the Whites this afternoon for on a four-year deal from Barcelona.
Firpo endured a tough time with the Catalan giants, making just 41 appearances across his two years at the club. He had lunch with Leeds sporting director Victor Orta over a move to Yorkshire.
His move to Leeds comes after Ezgjan Alioski departed Elland Road following the expiration of his contract. The North Macedonia international enjoyed four years at the side following his move from FC Lugano.
Speaking about the 24-year-old, the Spanish football expert said a back-three system suits the ace.
When talking about Firpo, : “When he was at Betis he looked like a very happy, brave full-back who went forward very often, in a team who were playing three at the back.”
“It really suited him. He defended decently but attacked much better. He’s been incredibly professional the entire time. I think the managerial instability didn’t help.”

TBR View: Firpo can be a fantastic signing in Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United system
Attacking football is what Marcelo Bielsa lives and breathes. It’s a brand of football he’s used ever since walking through the doors of Elland Road.
You don’t suspect that will change anytime throughout the remainder of his reign at the club.
As a result, Firpo can be a fantastic signing for Leeds United under the stewardship of the Argentine.
His attacking thrust is unquestionable and would be a welcome addition to a side who are bonkers in the final third.
However, he has big shoes to fill especially after Stuart Dallas’ and Luke Ayling’s performances last season. The Northern Irishman scored eight goals and assisted twice.
It’s a display about how under the right system, attacking fullbacks as Firpo can thrive for Leeds.
