Bailey Peacock-Farrell has been explaining his Leeds United exit this summer in conversation
The Northern Irishman lost his place as number one goalkeeper in January when Leeds snapped up Kiko Casilla from Real Madrid.
He went on to admit he might need to consider his future at Leeds as he wanted to retain his spot as Northern Ireland’s number one goalkeeper.
He was soon missing from pre-season friendlies and the writing appeared on the wall. Leeds eventually sold ‘BPF’ to Burnley to be in the region of £3.5 million.
Speaking to the same publication over the weekend the 22-year-old stated it was not a difficult decision, despite being signed to act as back-up to both Nick Pope and Joe Hart.
“I don’t think you could call it difficult when a Premier League team comes calling. It’s really hard for you to turn it down.
“It’s an opportunity for me to grow, take the next step in my career and I feel like it’s a good, solid place for me to build a foundation and improve myself.
“I know I’ve got two top goalkeepers in front of me but it’s a time in my career when I can maybe take some information from them, learn from them and maybe benefit myself.”
TBR’s View
Leeds United fans were certainly surprised to see Peacock-Farrell go this summer, as he had every chance of pushing Casilla for the number one spot.
However, from the club’s point of view, it was good business to sell him for such a fee. Ilan Meslier, signed on loan from Lorient, is adequate cover along with under-23 players Kamil Miazek and Will Huffer. It allows Leeds to bring some needed cashflow amid increasing FFP scrutiny in the Championship.
As for Peacock-Farrell, he has a tough task getting first-team football ahead of two England capped goalkeepers.
But as he says, it could be a great learning curve at Turf Moor as he looks to become a Premier League regular.
