Axel Tuanzebe can be a vital player at Aston Villa under Dean Smith

Dean Smith has now started his managerial reign at Aston Villa with a win and a defeat in the Championship, as his side slipped to a 2-1 loss away at Norwich City on Tuesday night.

The Midlands giants were unable to build on their 1-0 win over Swansea City and there is plenty of work to be done if the team are to compete for promotion.

But there have already been some positives for Smith to reflect on and the performances of enforcer Axel Tuanzebe is certainly a main one.

The 20-year-old was on a short-term deal at Villa last season from Manchester United, before re-signing on a season-long loan for this campaign in the summer.

His versatility meant that he wasn’t given a regular run in the side under ex-manager Steve Bruce in his favoured position, but it looks like that is about to change under Smith.

Tuanzebe is a no-nonsense centre-back that has starred in the last two Villa matches, including a top display against Norwich and he was let down by his teammates.

The Englishman is a physical enforcer that is brilliant in one-on-one battles and one of his greatest assets is his pace.

It looks like he can forget about the days of filling in as an emergency full-back and Villa should see Tuanzebe develop into his full potential if he continues in the heart of defence.
