Austin delivers exciting Tweet on Bertrand amid Arsenal and Manchester City links

Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand has emerged as a reported target for both Arsenal and Manchester City with talks over a new deal on the south coast reaching an impasse – and Charlie Austin has posted an exciting Tweet regarding his future.

Bertrand, 31, has been ever-present for Southampton since joining the club initially on loan from Chelsea in 2014. He has since clocked up 240 appearances for the Saints, but his contract is about to end and that his contract is about to end.

The report states that four clubs are interested, in the form of Arsenal, AC Milan, AS Monaco and Manchester City – with both The Gunners and City looking for cover at left-back. Kieran Tierney and Oleksandr Zinchenko are currently first choice.

Austin, who played alongside Bertrand at Southampton, told the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and any other clubs that might be interested in signing Bertrand – that getting the left-back would be a brilliant signing in the coming months.

TBR’s view – Which club is best for Bertrand?

Arsenal need to qualify for the Europa League if Bertrand is to be tempted. Kieran Tierney remains first choice but without European football, there is little room for Bertrand to get game time at The Emirates. City would be a decent move.

Certainly, the chances of trophies will tempt Bertrand, but it remains to be seen if he would be third choice – given Benjamin Mendy and Zinchenko are above him. Nathan Ake, Aymeric Laporte and Joao Cancelo can also play at left-back.

Surely, going abroad or moving to a more mid-table Premier League side would make more sense.
