‘At half-time’: John McGinn shares what Steven Gerrard did inside Aston Villa’s dressing room last night
John McGinn has spoken about Steven Gerrard’s final half-time team talk as Aston Villa manager, during the loss at Fulham last night.
Gerrard was sacked after the 3-0 defeat at Craven Cottage and the search for a new man in the hotseat is set to get underway.
McGinn was interviewed by after the game and said Gerrard gave his players a dressing down at the interval but it did not have the desired effect.

McGinn on Gerrard team talk at Fulham
McGinn said: “It’s hard to put a foot on it. Fulham started the game very well and we didn’t handle it well.
“We didn’t bring personality to the pitch or come to the fore. We didn’t do the basics of the game. At half-time the manager has gone through us and rightly so.
“The second half we need to show a reaction and for the first few minutes, maybe, we did but then we give them the chance to play against ten men.”
Gerrard made a big call during the summer, stripping Tyrone Mings of the captaincy and giving it to McGinn.
That may have played a part in his eventual downfall, and Mings has made mistakes in the last two matches, as Villa have conceded five goals without reply.
Now Villa are in a relegation battle when those who own the club will want to push towards the European spots ideally and it remains to be seen who comes in to replace Gerrard.
