Aston Villa’s Morgan Sanson makes Leeds transfer claim
Morgan Sanson has told Canal+ (as per the ) that Leeds United were very interested in signing him last summer, but he was not ready to leave Marseille.
Sanson has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs in recent years. And he went into the most recent January window having scored two goals and contributed three assists this season in Ligue 1.

Ultimately, it was Aston Villa who won the race to sign the 26-year-old. , he cost Dean Smith’s men £16 million.
But it appears that he could have moved to England a lot sooner. According to Sanson himself, Marcelo Bielsa’s side were extremely keen to bring him to Elland Road ahead of their return to the top flight.

“Since I was little I have always had a special affection for this championship [the Premier League],” he told Canal+ (via ).
“Aston Villa are a big club in England, but it could have been another club the summer before.
“There was Leeds who were very interested, but I felt that was not the time.“
TBR View: Leeds will hope they had another lucky escape
Leeds did not sign a central midfielder in the summer. But based on the links with another player, it would not be a surprise if they did indeed ask about Sanson.
, Leeds were close to signing Michael Cuisance from Bayern Munich. A £20 million fee had been agreed with the Bavarian giants before the move fell through.
Cuisance would actually end up becoming Sanson’s teammate at Stade Velodrome before the latter’s move. The pair have both featured in central and attacking midfield this term.
Pulling the plug on signing Cuisance is looking like a blessing for Leeds. And it remains to be seen if they will be able to take a similar view on Sanson.
Smith has taken a cautious approach with him so far. He has only made four substitute appearances for the Villans – with the latest coming at Elland Road at the weekend.
