Aston Villa were ready to pay £30m for ‘exciting’ defender but now Real Madrid want him

Aston Villa had a busy old summer this time around but even they didn’t get all their targets and could now end up losing out to Real Madrid with one player.

The Villans signed a number of quality players to aide their Premier League and Champions League push and it’s been so far, so good for Unai Emery this term.

However, like most Premier League teams, certain players didn’t end up being signed for one reason or another.

And according to reports from Italy, Villa were even ready to put down a huge offer as they looked to tempt Juventus into selling one of their key men.

Aston Villa could now lose out on Andrea Cambiaso to Real Madrid

According to , Real Madrid are keen on signing Cambiaso from Juventus as they look to revamp areas of their defence.

Dani Carvajal’s injury has left the Spanish side seeking new recruits and Tottenham’s Pedro Porro is believed to be on Madrid’s radar as well.

However, it is claimed that in the summer, Aston Villa were ready to pay more than £30m for Cambiaso as well as hand him a five-year contract.

Cambiaso has been labelled as one of the most ‘‘ wing-backs in Europe and he is already firmly entrenched in the Italy set up.

Villa looking at the very top now

You have to admire the strategy from Aston Villa with Monchi running things as they look to bring in players of a high calibre.

Andrea Cambiaso is certainly a player who would add quality to the ranks and with Villa willing to spend big, they remain ambitious.

As usual, with Real Madrid being interested, Villa will now feel their chance to sign Cambiaso might have gone.

However, you can never say never in football and if Villa manage another top four finish, then Cambiaso might well be tempted by a Premier League move.
