Kortney Hause must grasp Aston Villa chance after failed Domagoj Vida swoop

Aston Villa are currently in the middle of a serious injury crisis and with the transfer window open, they will be looking to strengthen.

Tyrone Mings has been a big loss at the back in recent weeks, whilst John McGinn, Tom Heaton and Wesley have all joined him in the treatment room.

Keeping clean sheets has been the biggest problem for Villa and defensive recruits will be sought during this month.

One man who had been linked with a switch to Villa Park was £6.7m-rated Croatian defender Domagoj Vida.

That one does look to be off the radar now with the 31-year-old telling that he is happy playing for Besiktas.

The man who helped Croatia to the World Cup Final in 2018 would have been an ideal signing but it looks to be back to the drawing board.

That could mean promoting within and in recent weeks Kortney Hause has earned some game time.

The ex-Wolves defender was a key figure in Villa’s promotion-winning team of last season but has struggled for minutes during 2019/20.

Hause has started the last five matches, however. Hause helped the Villans to a first clean sheet in six weeks during a 1-0 win over Norwich recently and also looked good against Burnley on New Year’s Day.

Determined

Not featuring at all will have hurt during the opening months of the season. His efforts last season didn’t warrant being frozen out altogether and he will be keen to make amends.

Vida seemingly ruling out a switch to Villa is great news for Hause but it’s up to him to now make a statement.

The £3 million man is at an age where he can still improve and he must now grasp the chance with both hands.

Hause formed a great partnership with Mings last season and when he returns to fitness the two could strike up their relationship once again.

The 24-year-old has 10 caps for the England under-21s and can play.

He is good in the air, strong in the tackle and boasts real intelligence when it comes to playing centre-half.

Vida falling by the wayside could be a blessing for the man-mountain and Hause needs to seize this opportunity.
