Aston Villa surely have to consider Michy Batshuayi following Callum Wilson blow

Aston Villa have lost out in the race to sign Callum Wilson, and must now look elsewhere to sign a new striker.

Newcastle United have had a £20 million bid accepted for the four-cap England international, with the player set on a move to St. James’ Park.

A medical is expected on Monday , but it is unlikely the Magpies will let the 28-year-old slip from their grasp from here.

The development will come as a frustration to Dean Smith, who really needs a new goalscorer ahead of 2020/21, which starts next weekend.

Ideally, the manager needs someone with experience of scoring goals in the Premier League – hence, the pursuit of Wilson.

One man Villa should surely now turn their attention to is Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi.

the Blues would like to extend the £85,000-a-week player’s contract, before loaning him out for 2020/21.

TBR’s View – Batshuayi would be great addition for Villa

Batshuayi doesn’t have a future at Stamford Bridge.

Frank Lampard has new signing Timo Werner, Olivier Giroud who recently signed an extension, and Tammy Abraham at his disposal.

Simply put, he isn’t going to play and Villa should strongly consider making a move.

Perhaps they should even test Chelsea’s resolve with the £21 million they reportedly offered Bournemouth for Wilson ().

At the moment, Batshuayi’s current contract expires next year, so the pressure is on for the club to get an extension or sell.

If Villa slap in a suitable offer, the Londoners might just be tempted to sell, and Villa would be getting a player who needs a fresh start and has scored 25 goals in 77 Chelsea appearances, as well as 16 in 29 for his country.

Having gotten Abraham on loan a couple of seasons ago, perhaps Villa’s relationship with Chelsea is strong enough for business to be done once again.
