Aston Villa starlet Harry McKirdy outlines promotion hopes after scoring his first goal for Newport County
While Aston Villa are preparing for a promotion bid via the play-offs, one of their loanees is in a similar boat, .
Harry McKirdy is on loan at League Two Newport County and is hoping to help his side to promotion via the play-offs.
McKirdy scored his first goal for the Exiles last weekend in his eighth game, although only one of those has been a start.
Up against fellow Aston Villa loanees Jake Doyle-Hayes and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy at Cambridge United, McKirdy scored in injury time shortly after coming on as a substitute.
Now, he is eyeing victory in the play-offs and dreaming of a Wembley victory.

: “We know that we can’t drop any points if we want to have a chance of making the play-offs. We need to win every game and we believe we can do it.
“We’re unbeaten from the last five matches, and we’ve kept four clean sheets in that time so there’s no reason why we can’t win the remaining five matches.
“It would be massive for me to be involved in a potential promotion. I’ve never played at Wembley before and that’s every player’s dream to play there.”
The 22-year-old’s primary focus will be his play-off push with Newport. With four games left in League Two, Newport are 12th – five points and five places off the play-offs.
But McKirdy will also be trying to prove a point to his parent club. The young striker is out of contract this summer and needs to show why he should get an extension.
