Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz praised by national team boss
Brazilian national team boss Tite has been highlighting why Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz is so important to the national team.
Luiz has been in great form for Aston Villa this season at the base of a Dean Smith side full of creativity.
Luiz has also forced his way into the Brazilian national team under Tite and featured in the recent fixtures against both Bolivia and Peru following his international debut 12 months ago against South Korea.
He has featured regularly in a midfield duo alongside Real Madrid’s Casemiro. With Casemiro doing a lot of the dirty work, Luiz is considered the player who transitions defence to attack and Tite has confirmed that the Aston Villa star is key to unleashing PSG and Selecao superstar Neymar’s attacking qualities.

“What does Douglas bring?,” the Brazilian. “(He) brings more creativity to the left side with Neymar, who is not only open, but comes inside. He is the bow and arrow. He is the player of the assistance, the pass, the penultimate pass. Then you have a player behind that triangle to feed you, in addition to the support.
“Now, he is confirming this evolution at Aston Villa and we hope that he can continue in this direction.”
Aston Villa fans know all about Luiz’s ability to disrupt the play and give the creative types the room to glow.
John McGinn, Ross Barkley, and Jack Grealish undoubtedly benefit from the 22-year-old’s performances and, especially with Grealish, there is a comparison to be made to a player like Neymar who is so important to the team that Douglas Luiz lets him shine.
Grealish is Aston Villa’s Neymar, and Douglas Luiz is happy to do the dirty work to let him shine.
