Report: ‘Unbelievable’ Arsenal and Liverpool target is stalling on new deal and could now leave this summer
Aston Villa are facing frustration in their attempts to keep Carney Chukwuemeka with the young midfielder stuttering over whether to sign a new deal with Steven Gerrard’s side or not.
reports how Chukwuemeka has been offered fresh terms at Villa Park but, as yet, isn’t fully convinced over his long-term prospects at the club. His potential availability has alerted both Arsenal and Liverpool recently, who are both big fans of the teenager.
Indeed, it was only this week that Arsenal were credited with an interest in Chukwuemeka, while Liverpool’s admiration stretches back to just before the January transfer window opened. He is highly-rated in the Midlands, with teammate Ollie Watkins recently the youngster ‘unbelievable’ for his talents.
Chukwuemeka’s current deal expires at the end of the next season. But Villa are keen to either tie him down to fresh terms, or cash in on him while they can. Manager Gerrard has admitted the club has done all they can to attract the midfielder to signing a new contract.
Arsenal and Liverpool, then, will no doubt be keeping well in the loop on this one ahead of the summer.
TBR’s View: Chukwuemeka Taking A Risk Leaving Villa If He Does
If the midfielder has concerns over his first-team minutes then signing for a club like Liverpool or Arsenal’s isn’t exactly going to increase those chances.
Sure, long-term, he might get his chance. But at the moment he isn’t getting into the Liverpool midfield at all, while Arsenal are also doing well in that department as well.
This seems a ploy to get the best terms possible in all honesty. Chukwuemeka is a talented player, but there is only so far a club will go for a teenager when it comes to a new deal.
