Aston Villa now want to sign £17m attacker who Jadon Sancho says is absolutely ‘great’

With Aston Villa’s season delicately poised heading into the January transfer window, it seems Unai Emery does want to strengthen.

Villa are having a superb season, achieving almost unimaginable success in the Premier League thus far.

And with a spot in next season’s Champions League now looking like a real possibility, it seems Villa will look to use the January window to progress.

As well as players arriving, it seems Emery will reshuffle several areas of his squad, with one 28-year-old now free to leave.

Perhaps such departures are intended to fund Villa’s ambitions to recruit a winger for their squad this month.

And according to , it seems that Emery has just found his man.

Borussia Dortmund’s Giovanni Reyna is said to be for sale this month, something that might surprise a few football fans.

But despite previously having a reputation as one of the world’s best up-and-coming talents, Reyna is struggling to progress at Dortmund.

The 21-year-old hasn’t scored a single goal this season, making just two starts across all competitions.

Whilst it remains to be seen if Villa would pursue a loan or a permanent deal for Reyna this month, the forward is said to be available at around £17m via this report.

And considering Reyna’s rich reputation, that could prove to be something of a bargain.

Of course, part of the reason Reyna may leave Dortmund this month is the return of Jadon Sancho.

The Manchester United winger has decided it best to return to the Bundesliga to get his career back on track – with Reyna possibly now making that move in reverse.

That being said, Sancho was incredibly complimentary about Reyna’s skill set when playing with him before.

Speaking via the , Sancho said: “I think Gio is a great player, I feel like he’s going to be one of the next best players here at Dortmund.

“I’m just happy to see him play, and play with him every week, and I’m just excited for what happens next.”

Given those quotes were back in 2020, unfortunately Reyna hasn’t quite gone on to fulfil his potential.

But perhaps a move to Villa in the January transfer window could change the trajectory of his career.

Of course, Villa do seem to be lining up a number of lofty targets this month.
