Aston Villa now in advanced talks to sign ‘complete’ player and not afraid to pay £27m asking price

Aston Villa have been among the busiest Premier League clubs when it comes to transfers this summer.

Monchi – Director of Football at Villa Park – has already spent over £150m to bring eight new players to the Midlands, as Unai Emery prepares Aston Villa for the UEFA Champions League in the 2024/25 campaign.

Now, another player looks likely to join Aston Villa this summer…

Aston Villa in advanced talks to sign Lutsharel Geertruida

A story from states that Aston Villa are now in advanced talks to sign Lutsharel Geertruida from Feyenoord.

The French news outlet believe the Netherlands international has had an offer from PSG on the table for roughly a month now, and despite agreeing to join the Parisians, his situation has taken a back seat as the Ligue 1 champions focus on a new contract for Achraf Hakimi.

In the meantime, Aston Villa seem to have put themselves in pole position.

Foot Mercato believe Geertruida is just as willing to join the Villans as he is PSG, and Aston Villa have now reached an advanced stage in discussions with Feyenoord.

It is said that Aston Villa have no qualms about paying the €32m (£27.4m) asking price, and see the 24-year-old as an ideal replacement for Diego Carlos, who is expected to join Fulham.

Geertruida – who has been as a “complete” player by Football Talent Scout – made 47 appearances last season, scoring nine goals while also providing five assists while operating on the right of defence.

The Dutchman also made appearances at left-back and in the centre of Feyenoord’s backline.

Monchi needs to be quick

While PSG sound like they are dragging their heels over this deal, Monchi still needs to show some urgency if the French giants are to be fended off completely.

Foot Mercato add that Geertruida, who has been compared to Marcelo, is a primary target for PSG, and the Parisians are wealthy enough to come in with a late offer which trumps anything Aston Villa can put on the table.

Therefore, Monchi should not get comfortable just yet, as Aston Villa cannot consider this case closed until the man from Rotterdam is holding up that claret and blue shirt.
